While writing essays are common throughout
all schools, the chosen essay topics for these works are not. The usual
essay topic of a student’s trip, a vacation or favorite things have
all been used and reused for so many things. This is especially true
when the professor allows the student to select their own subjects for
their essays. Students would often just rely on the basic essay topics
that already worked in their previous classes.
One of the rarely touched essay topics
is about sports. For some reason, people see academic work and sports
as something that does not really mix. An essay topic about sports may
be viewed as something that is not serious enough to merit academic
considerations. However, when one selects a good point of discussion
and uses it properly, sports can become an easy subject.
What sets sports apart from the variety
of essay topics is the ease that one would have when writing. This is
because of the sheer number of points that you can select from it as
well as the interest that one would have about it. The focus can range
from the game itself to the players of the game. Here are 6 good topics
for someone who would like to choose sports as their essay topic:
- Concentrate on a specific
team. A writer can use for his essay topics his favorite sports
team. One can talk about the amazing collection of players or even the
genius minds that compose the coaching staff. One can talk how very
powerful teams that led to sports dynasty’s such as the New York Yankees
in Baseball, or the New England Patriots in football were able to dominate.
- Write an essay on a star
player. This is a favorite among sports essay topics. Writers would
write about a player’s greatness. One could write the specific moments
during game time where the skills of the player truly shined. The essay
writer could also add in the essay the things that the athlete does
to attain a high skill level.
- Use a Rivalry. One
of the things that make sports interesting is the rivalries about two
sports teams. This also means that this option is good as essay topics.
These rivalries have epic encounters, both on and off the arena that
is ripe for writing and discussion. There are so many rivalries, such
as Duke and UNC in college
basketball, the Yankees and the Red Sox in Baseball, and the Lakers
and the Celtics in the NBA.
- Write about the fan base.
While most of the writing about sports talks about the athletes and
players participating in the sport, a writer can deviate and talk about
a team’s fan base. Most sports team, either in professional leagues
or in collegiate settings, relies on the fans support for them to perform
better. At the same time, a team’s fan base can be very dedicated,
one can talk about the drastic things that fanatics do in the name of
team support.
- Make a comparison between
athletes of two different sports. Another good option is to focus
on two athletes from different sports. A student may compare and contrast
the traits and characteristics between the best players from different
disciplines. Focus can also be on how an amazing football player compares
to the abilities of a basketball or baseball player.
- Write about a
personal sporting event or experience.
It could be the hitting that game winning shot in basketball, that walk
off home run in baseball, or catching that Hail Mary pass in football.
Almost everyone has their own experience in sports. A student can write
about the moment, and the jubilation after finishing the great play,
or even the despair after being in the wrong end of one.
Using these essay topics, the
writer can prove that sports and academics can mix even in essays.
